Studio fashion jewellery photography
We photographed a jewellery collection in the studio with models, using continuous lighting and a range of backdrops. The shoot brought together necklaces, earrings and different styles of pieces within a fashion setting.
The photographs above show the jewellery as part of a complete image, with the model, clothing, background and light contributing to the composition. This gives a collection a different presentation from individual ecommerce packshots.
Working with continuous light
The original production used softboxes and reflectors alongside studio LEDs. With continuous light, the effect on the piece is visible as the model and camera position change, which helps when judging reflections and the balance between the jewellery and its surroundings.
The collection included blue, green and purple stones. Those colours were part of the visual direction, considered alongside the background and the other elements in the frame.
Keeping the jewellery visible
A fashion image still needs to give the product enough attention. A necklace may depend on the position of a neckline; earrings can be affected by hair and the angle of the face. These are small decisions, but they change how clearly someone can see the piece.
For a collection, wider photographs and closer compositions can work together. The wider image establishes the look; a closer view gives more space to the jewellery's form and detail.
Planning a jewellery collection shoot
Send photographs of the pieces, the number of items and the intended uses. Tell us whether you need model images, product-only views or both. If styling, hair or makeup forms part of the brief, identify the people involved and the looks to be prepared.
Check the condition of samples and packaging before the session. Small marks become more noticeable in close views, and a clear product list helps match each photograph to the correct piece afterwards.
